We need to know by tomorrow , October 17, if we have enough students interested for them to come ! WCS Fire Prevention Week wrapped up with our Whitesville Volunteer Firefighters spending much of their day with our students! Pre-k and Kindergarten visited the fire station first thing this morning to explore the trucks, firemen gear, and experience the power of the water hoses! The firemen then joined several of our classes for lunch, which our kids absolutely love! Then they returned in the afternoon for their annual presentation on the lawn. The kids showed off what they've learned about lithium-ion batteries (this year's Fire Prevention theme), learned more about firemen's gear, their training process, and talked further about what to do in case of a fire. They then presented cash prizes to the poster contest winners and allowed everyone to explore the trucks in depth! We cannot thank our volunteer firemen enough for taking time out of their days these past weeks to put all of this together for our students! In the words of our students' thank you cards "Thank you for keeping our community safe!"

Mosaic Health Community Dentistry has come to WCS the past two years to provide dental services. These services have included screenings, dental health education, x-rays, cleanings, sealants and more! 🪥
This year, we need a head count to determine if we have enough participating students for a Mosaic Health dental hygienist to come and provide these services.
The forms will be coming home with every student. If you want your child to participate, please return the completed form NO LATER THAN next Friday, October 17th. This will allow time for Mosaic to determine if enough students are participating.
After Oct 17th, we will notify you if services will be provided or if we do NOT have enough returned forms for Mosaic Health to come this year due to lack of anticipated participation.

Yesterday's Outdoor Education groups learned about the role that Oak Trees and acorns play in nature, as well as the different eating habits of grey squirrels and red squirrels. Then they put their gross and fine motor skills to the test by rolling balls of wet felt to form their own acorns necklaces!

What is Parents as Partners?
WCS believes that parents are essential contributors to their child’s learning and development. The goal of our Parents as Partners program is to build strong school-family-community partnerships to enhance student achievement, creativity and character.
Parents as Partners is a new program at WCS designed to offer parents an active, engaged collaboration time within the school setting which supports their child’s social-emotional development and education.
Each month, WCS will host a Parent as Partners event that involves creativity and collaboration with your child(ren). We will offer hands-on fun learning experiences, that provide our families structured time to wonder, explore and grow together.
