⏰Have you caught up on your sleep from losing an hour for daylight savings time? At WCS, we know that sleep is just as important to our students' health as good nutrition🍎 and physical activity. 🏃‍♀️ Too little sleep can lead to an unhealthy weight, and puts us at higher risk for type 2 diabetes, even for kids. Eatright.org talks about how important sleep is to kids and gives us tips on how to prioritize getting enough sleep. https://www.eatright.org/health/wellness/healthful-habits/how-sleep-habits-affect-healthy-weight

🍽March is National Nutrition Month🍽 Everyone is so busy, but you can still eat healthy, even "on the run." 🚗 Here are tips on how to eat healthier when "eating out": 1. Bring healthy snacks along in the car -- cut up vegetables, whole fruit, nuts or sunflower seeds, and protein bars. 🥕🍏 2. Have the kids pick out and prepare the healthy snacks. 3. Think ahead and plan where you will eat. Pick a place with healthier options. 4. Choose grilled over breaded, baked or broiled over fried. 5. Order the child size portion or an appetizer instead of a main course. 6. Split dessert or order fresh fruit with whipped cream for dessert.🍓 7. Hold up on eating bread or chips before your meal is served. Hunger may drive you to fill up on those before your meal is served. 📣Remember, eating healthier leads to a happier and healthy YOU!☺

🍽March is National Nutrition Month with the theme of "Beyond the Table".🍽 Kids like to snack, and snacking can play an important role in meeting kids' nutrient needs. 🍎Choosing a variety of foods will give them the energy they need between meals. It helps to plan out snacks in advance -- kids only need 2 or 3 snacks daily between meals. Avoid snacking while playing on electronic devices or watching tv as it leads to mindless eating. Have kids prepare the healthy snacks. 🥗 Eatright.org has a lot of healthy snack ideas. https://www.eatright.org/food/planning/meals-and-snacks

📣This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. In the United States, 28.8 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives. There are many myths about eating disorders -- including "It only happens to girls" "It's the parent's fault" and "It's not that serious."
